Résumé

It all started in the summer of 2008, when Facebook was only four years old. The covers of two influential US magazines were each dedicated to one same issue : how is our thinking influenced by technology ? The Atlantic featured "Is Google making us Stoopid ? " and Wired claimed "The end of Science" on its cover. These two highly provocative papers raised a very useful discussion which is still ongoing.
With the rise of the Internet, social media and Al, the context has changed so much that cognitive sciences are entering a new paradigm. Most people think about the future as an addition of the present and the technological offer, whereas new technologies only make sense if they are accompanied by new mental models. We have to learn how to properly use the Internet to prevent it from using us. We must comprehend the limits of artificial intelligence to take advantage of what it has to offer.
Today, Facebook renamed itself Meta Platforms Inc. and the topic is more critical than ever. New threats also mean new opportunities. That is why the authors invite business leaders, teachers, and responsible citizens to rediscover the art of thinking. This essay takes us back to ancient Greece where logical and critical thinking were first formalized. It also reminds us of more recent developments in cognitive sciences that include creative thinking.
With these benchmarks, Luc de Brabandere and Lina Benmehrez introduce the reader to information technology using a philosophical approach, connecting necessary clarifications and useful questioning.
