That book deals with high-impact contemporary anthropic crises, using the sinking of the Titanic as a metaphorical frame of reference. Some crises are presented that we consider relevant to serve as a reference, to understand the behaviors of the agents and to critically assess the results of the actions and capitalize on some contributions to manage crises in the future. Based on a synthetic review of the crisis cases that we have studied, we seek to identify a set of challenges for managers strongly associated with globalizing processes, disruptive technological changes and knowledge management.
We will not be able to generalize the contributions but we can collect certain signals that have drawn our attention to human actions. We think that the summary of the lessons learned is an integrative contribution of the effort made to better understand the crises. But we try not to stay anchored by developing suggestions to face contingent processes. We hope to be able to provide - based on the signals generated by these contingent crises - some clarifying notes of a larger social dynamic that is generating more permanent changes.
