Résumé

This book tells the fascinating story of Niagara University's inner life and outward journey since its founding 150 years ago. What began as a Catholic seminary in 1856 has evolved into a modern mid-sized Catholic university. The path was not an easy one, as the university – faculty, students, and administrators – faced major changes in both the external environment and its own internal imperatives.
Central to the story is the university's struggle to preserve and assert its Catholic and Vincentian heritage and identity, sometimes at great cost. This book is useful for courses in the history and administration of higher education in the United States.
