Résumé

Egocentric network analysis is used widely across the social sciences, and is increasingly being employed in business, informatics, and the natural sciences. This approach focuses on individuals sampled from a population, and their direct social ties. A fundamental tenet is that each of these individuals is embedded in a personal community - partially of their own creation and nearly unique to them - whose composition and structure have important consequences for wellbeing and life chances.
Egocentric network analysis requires a distinct set of methodological tools that overlaps only minimally with sociocentric network analysis, in which there is a common network boundary shared by all actors. However, until now there has been no single comprehensive reference for studying ego networks. This book covers the landscape of egocentric network theory, research design, and analysis, with an emphasis on application to engaging substantive examples and empirical data.
Egocentric Network Analysis : Foundations, Methods, and Models provides a readable blueprint for the novice, but also serves as a guide to state-of-the art innovation for the experienced researcher.
