Résumé

Vancouver, 1958. At age fifty, with two grown children, Margaret Spencer lives the vaguely dissatisfied life of a corporate lawyers wife until one more vapid birthday greeting card from her inattentive husband sparks a search for new meaning in her existence. She answers an ad calling for part-time office help and finds herself hired by Nat Southby, former cop and now, Private Eye. An innocuous request to locate a missing cat brings the unlikely duo smack into the middle of a vicious murder and a series of unnerving disappearances of Vancouver teenage girls. Beneath the quiet exterior of the prim west coast metropolis, they find, lurks a great deal of evil. In this tightly woven story, British-born author Gwendolyn Southin has brought forth a spellbinding tale that harkens back to a simpler time on Canada's lush coast, when men believed that women's lib was defined as more labour-saving devices in the kitchen, and when wives were supposed to know their place.
