Résumé

In the 19th century, after the French Revolution, the splendid originality of men's wardrobes began to Iose ground to the far more sober style imposed by democratic ideals. Aristocratie magnificence gave way to the bourgeois efficiency of the new business class, and its strictly conventional attire was only relieved by cuff links, which, minuscule as they were and scarcely visible just below the hem of a sleeve, became a boundless source of inspiration among jewelers.

À propos des auteurs

Ail the cuff links photographed for this book belong to one man, Bertrand Pizzin. His collection, begun by chance over twenty years ago, is today-thanks to the variety and the number of items (over 2,000 pairs of cuff links)- one of the most important in the world, along with the collection belonging to singer Harry Connick Jr Over the years, Pizzin's quest has taken him all over the world. His friends have joined in the game, obtaining some of the rarest pieces of all-such as Maria Félix, who commissioned a unique pair for him as a gift, or Princess Sikira of Somalia, who hunts through every antique dealer's boutique in Provence.
Recently, Bertrand Pizzin has begun to design his own creations, commissioning their manufacture from Parisian jewelers. Jean-Noël Liaut is the biographer of Karen Blixen, Madeleine Castaing, Floc'h, Hubert de Givenchy and Natalie Paley, and author of the book Bizarre Angels : A century of Eccentrics (2001), Petit Dictionnaire du snobisme contemporain (2006), Javanese (2011), and a dairy, Ferociously Yours (2005).
He also writes for various magazines
