Our newly reconciled lovers are broken apart by an arranged marriage to a third party. See but don't touch. Like but don't love. Lovers again, Dane and Rikki are planning for the future when Dane's Uncle Johnny, patriarch of the McDeglin clan, announces his daughter Careen's engagement to Dane, her first cousin. Dane accepts that he has to honor his uncle's choice in accordance with the Irish Traveller custom of arranged marriages.
His decision leaves Rikki in a painful and heartbreaking situation. Dane is still living with Rikki's family. He is Rikki's stepbrother, after all. So, she can see, but not touch. Like, but not love. Rikki loves Dane too deeply to tempt or persuade him to forsake his clan honor. She can only carry on from day to day hoping some chance of fate will prevent the marriage between Careen and Dane, for Dane will never give up his cultural values for Rikki, will he? Meanwhile, Dane is beset by an attack from a rival Traveller clan and has to answer a challenge beneath his standing as the bare-knuckle champion of the north. How will Dane and Rikki surmount the obstacles thrown in their path to reach their happy ever after?
