Résumé

Meet Kenna Moore. Problems? Her father's betrayal and her mother's monsters. College? Expelled. Life? Unpredictable. How's this witch going to make her mark? Sometimes the life we plan for isn't the life we get. Sometimes the life we get is bigger than anything we could've planned. This describes my situation completely.  I thought that I was going to school to be a doctor. I knew I wanted to help people.
Then I was kicked out of college and felt that dream slipping away. Forced to return home, I imagined I'd be doing this with my tail between my legs. Instead, thanks to my mother and her friends, I was able to do so with my head held high.  With my mother's support, I was able to return to college. With Camille's guidance, I was able to find my grandmother, the mother my mom never knew existed. And because of Tabitha, I had been studying witchcraft.
When my hunter mark emerged after my first monster kill, I had new skills to master. My mom and Attie couldn't wait to support me, even if they feared these new dangers I faced.  Next thing I knew, I'd been inducted into The Order of the Veil, a secret society that dabbled in witchcraft and voodoo magic, the perfect combination for a group in NOLA. I thought there were few things that could surprise me anymore.
Then I met Max. He was dark, brooding, and mysterious. He made my hunter senses spike and my lady bits tingle. Gunner swore this was normal, and suggested I might have found my mate. Attie punched him, and ordered me to ignore the fur brain.  Naturally, I let my curiosity get the better of me. That's how I learned he was suffering from a magical ailment. That's why he was in New Orleans to begin with.
Max needed the grimoire of Cerie LaVie, a famous eighteenth century voodoo priestess. Rumor had it she could heal anyone, fix anything, and had lived nearly three hundred years. Max needed my help. I needed Max. And that's why I intentionally broke the first rule of hunting: Never seek out haunted places.  There were few places more haunted than an old cemetery. There were few people I'd risk my mother's wrath for, but I swore I'd save him no matter what.  By the time I realized I should've thought this through, I was in too deep...neck deep specifically...in Cerie LaVie's grave.
