Wagenseil (1715-1777), court composer and piano instructor of the imperial family in Vienna was one of the most popular musicians in his time. Set between Baroque music and Viennese classic, he is now considered to have paved the way for the classic symphony. It is said that Mozart very much admired Wagenseil who was 41 years his senior. The symphonies in A and D were edited on the basis of the original manuscripts and were printed here for the first time.
