Résumé

London 1888. Ruby Myers won't let anyone step on her.  After fighting her way to the top of a thriving underworld, the bisexual gangster protects her brothel workers at any cost.  So the twenty-three-year-old madam sees red when her female lover is found dead with her throat slashed. As the local constabulary flounders to unearth a concrete lead, Ruby learns the murderer hasn't stopped with one corpse and his choice of victims all link back to her.  And even after partnering with the police to dig up clues, the bold young woman fears she'll only discover the culprit's identity when he comes for her... As secrets and scandals multiply, can Ruby avoid a grisly fate? To Find a Penny is a dark and gritty historical crime story.  If you like strong-willed women, fast-paced mysteries, and disturbing twists, then you'll adore Lillian Maddison's trip into the dangerous past.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Lillian Maddison

Sarah Rees writes in the pen name of Lillian Maddison. She writes gritty, true-to-era, historical fiction and her stories are not for the faint of heart. A fascination with historical events and a love of fiction blends together to create her books. Sarah loves crime, gangster stories and historical fiction. After a childhood with her head in any book she could lay her hands on and crafting her own short stories, she didn't follow a career in writing.
She started work in an office as a secretary and then studied hairdressing and became a qualified hairdresser. She gained a CELTA qualification to teach English as a foreign language in 2018 and, on occasion, teaches foreign language students. Sarah chose at 49 to apply to go to the Arts University Bournemouth and graduated with a BA in Creative Writing in 2021. An MA followed and she graduated from Bournemouth University in 2022 with an MA in Creative Writing and Publishing and her debut novel, To Find a Penny was born.
Sarah is now returning to Bournemouth University to study for her PhD and lives in Dorset with her husband and daughter.
