This book is a cautionary tale for love stories. It has all the feels. It's absolutely shattering. This book emulates life perfectly. It's not happy ever after. It's messy and raw. It's real, it's visceral, it's pain, and love, and devastation. It's beauty, and it's darkness. Eli and Eden are such a beautiful disaster together. Eden battles her extreme devotion, and we watch the pendulum shift back and forth.
Eli is intoxicating and she is addicted to him, but her head and heart war constantly. When you love someone so completely on such a raw level, you put that person above yourself no matter the cost. Eden does this over and over again, and you know it's going to break her. Eli is brilliant. Skilled in the art of deflection, but it all comes at a cost. He intentionally throws a wrench in his relationships.
He's his own worst enemy. Anger, confusion, fear, they consume Eli. He has moments of (in his mind) weakness placing him in a vulnerable state. When he's truly experiencing hurt or fear, that's when he hits the hardest. His flashes of feeling small and insignificant, like he's easily replaceable, shatter your soul.
