Britain is divided. War has broken out between the mutant graffe, the humans who support them and those who don't. In an attempt to advance this war the military command come up with a daring plan to remount an operation from the Second World War. Unfortunately, for Will Morfasson and the other soldiers assigned to take the eighteen bridges of the River Mersey, it didn't work before and it certainly won't work this time.
But as Will fights for his life, fights to die anywhere other than Runcorn, he makes a discovery that changes everything he thought about the war.
