Résumé

Book DescriptionDid you know.Miracles Aren't SupernaturalThe first miracle to notice is, you're alive. Breathing. Here. The second miracle is everything else. Spiritual journeys can take us up many, often blind, alleys. They can bump our heads, scrape our knees, and mess up a day. Spiritual journeys can and do open our eyes, hearts, and minds to new opportunities, relationships, and other joys we might have considered unavailable.
But mostly, spiritual journeys continually present miracles. Nothing supernatural. No need. The natural world is mysterious and miraculous enough. As you will discover in this and the other books in this series, miracles are inherent in our world. They literally drip from the eaves, the draperies, the trees, and the clouds. Nothing is exempt from 'miracle-hood.'We, however, usually block the miracle, choosing instead to see a dreary, even dark world, both outside ourselves and inside ourselves.
Too often that choice becomes habitual and then difficult to break free. We walk in a continuous state of 'Oh my 'F'-ing gawd. Could things get any worse?'And yeah, they usually do. They don't have to. And you don't have to become spiritual or perfect or religious or anything of that sort in order to awaken to the miracles all around you, just waiting for you to notice them. They wait, like a cat ready to pounce, a dog waiting for the Frisbee, the child waiting to ride on your shoulders.
Frisky, joyful, bouncy. Miracles. Right here at this moment. In your midst. Here's the truly fun part: As you open to, recognize, and accept the miracles around you, as you say yes to all that's offered to you, as you join in the miraculous free for all, you change. In the best of ways. Without too much effort. You become a more joyful, grateful, caring person. You then influence the world around you.
"You're no longer the dark spot on the cream carpet. So, religious, spiritual, atheist. No matter. The miracle is no respecter of persons. It sheds its joy and abundance on all alike. Including you!"

Biographie de Richard Kent Matthews

"Become your best. Share your best with the world. Miracles follow!"I believe in miracles. Not the supernatural kind. The everyday kind, the kind we often miss. It's one thing to walk on water. It's another to walk on the earth in peace and compassion. (I borrowed that phrase from spiritual teacher Thich Nhat Hanh.)After a lifetime of achievement, joy, relationship, and adventure, I've relaxed into a new direction.
I have re-entered ministry and currently pastor Unity Gresham in Gresham, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. My purpose as an author, musician and minister is to help you become your best so you can share your best with the world. Your wonderful gifts and talents remain hidden when not shared. And that's not what gifts and talents are for, right? And I get to grow right along with you!Currently, I volunteer with Portland's Ride Connection, a public transportation advocacy organization for seniors and people with disabilities (since 2004).
Note: We had to take a year off due to the Corona Virus pandemic. I love Powell's Books in Portland where I do coffee and writing almost every morning. (I've written nearly 600 articles for blogs and online sites since 2002. If you Google my name, I have more than three pages of listings!)I'm an ordained progressive minister, Certified Pastoral Counselor, and wedding officiant. (In reality, no one ever truly retires from ministry.
It's a lifelong calling.)Originally from Southern California, I've lived in Los Angeles, Vancouver BC, Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, and currently, Portland, Oregon for more than 32 years. It's been a wonderful journey, and it's not over yet, by a long shot!Weaknesses: Cats, babies, rain (Love the rain!), grilled cheese sandwiches. Also, I can tear up when moved. Bragging rights: Survived a potentially deadly dunk off a friend's boat into the Columbia River near Portland, Oregon, on a cold rainy night in 1996!
