Lorenzo Brown is fresh out of the clink. After eight years on a drug charge he has vowed to go straight and has found himself a job as an officer for the Humane Society. He patrols his old neighbourhood in Washington DC, looking for ill-treated animals. But his old life is never far away, with his former cohorts still working their corners and their angles, trying to get ahead. Lorenzo's parole officer, Rachel Lopez, tries to help him stay out of trouble, even though she has battles of her own. But then a malevolent young killer changes everything with one violent act and Lorenzo must decide whether to stay legit.
