This edition of Statistical Physics by L D Landau and E M Lifshitz has been considerably enlarged and revised (with the assistance of L P Pitaevskii). It is Part I of a two-volume course which covers a wide scope of topics, starting with the elementary theory of statistical physics and going on to give a detailed treatment of Green's function methods and diagram techniques. It has been written for postgraduate students in theoretical physics, but owing to its clarity of exposition much of it could be read and understood by Final year undergraduates in theoretical physics, physics and also chemistry.
