Résumé

In the early sixties, Franz Erhard Walther introduced a new concept of sculpture to his work, one that combines geometric forms with simple sequences of movement and makes the viewer an integral part of the work. Besides presenting his sculptural works, the exhibition at the Hamburger Kunsthalle also features drawings and photographs, giving visual form to the conceptual dimension of Walther's "other concept of the work of art." With this, for the first time, Franz Erhard Walther subjects an exhibition itself to the process of transformation.
By altering the presentation several times, he demonstrates the various possible states of his works. This publication documents the different stages of this form of presentation and considers his oeuvre in terms of its lasting influence and contemporary relevance.
