Résumé

Drawing the Vote looks at the history of voting rights in the United States and how it has shaped the way we vote today. Author Tommy Jenkins tracks the major political events from the American Revolution to the present day, including - The civil war - The fight for women's suffrage - The civil rights movement - The voting rights act - Gerrymandering - Voter suppression - And control of our government by a republican majority.
Along the way, Jenkins identifies events and trends that led to the 2016 presidential election, which left Americans wondering, "How did this happen ? ". At a time when many citizens are experiencing apathy about voting, unease about election security, and skepticism concerning our bitterly divided political parties, Jenkins offers comprehensive, accessible explanations for how we got here and how every American can take action to make their voice heard and their vote count.
With detailed illustrations by Kati Locker, Drawing the Vote is essential reading for anyone interested in the future of our democratic process.
