Résumé

This edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Anaesthesia and Analgesia heralds the increasing awareness that not only is veterinary anaesthesia a vital discipline within the veterinary profession but also analgesia and pain relief are the foundations to successful treatment and compassionate welfare practice. To reflect the significant progress that vetennary anaesthesia and analgesia have experienced over the last 10 years, this new, extensively illustrated manual provides in-depth, up-to-date, evidence-based information on all aspects of the discipline.
Existing chapters have been thoroughly updated in line with continuing developments and there is a new chapter focusing on the anaesthesia of patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging, reflecting the increased use of this diagnostic imaging technique in veterinary practice. In addition there are five chapters dedicated to the pathophysiology of pain, pain recognition and scoring and to various analgesic agents, local anaesthetic and adjuvant analgesic techniques, highlighting the importance of both recognition and treatment of acute and chronic pain.
