Chosen from woodcut and copperplate engravings found in fabulously rare 16thand 17th-century herbals (Hieronymus Bock's Kreüter Buch, Rembert Dodoens' Cruijde Boeck, Leonhard Fuchs's Icones Plantarum and John Gerarde's The Herball, or General Historic of Plants), the drawings in this volume were formerly found only in the rare book rooms of libraries and museums or on the auction block.
Now artists, illustrators and craftspeople can choose from over 1,000 of these superb illustrations-all copyright-free-of flowers, shrubs, fruits, vegetables, trees and vines-identified and classified by botanical group. The drawings have been painstakingly reproduced to preserve the sharpness and clarity of the originals. Moreover, they encompass a variety of styles, both realistic and stylized, that make them ideal for a host of applications in advertising, handicrafts, fabric design, commercial art and other areas.
Gathered in this handy resource, these vintage botanical vignettes will delight not only artists and craftspeople, but gardeners, nature enthusiasts, horticulturalists and anyone interested in the accuracy, beauty and aesthetic appeal displayed in the magnificent art of the early herbals.
