Résumé

Semiconductor nanostructures have been attracting a great deal of interest in the last decade from the basic physics aspects through to the potential applications to the fundamentally new electronic and opto-electronic devices. The manipulation of quantum coherence is a central issue in this field and is a key ingredient for the achievement of quantum information processing and quantum computation. The developments in the extremely strong and ultrafast optical pulse techniques and in the near-field optical spectroscopies have accelerated the discovery of new coherent quantum phenomena in semiconductor nanostructures. At the same time, we have experienced great progress in the understanding of quantum correlation and the decoherence processes, which play a crucial role in the actual playground of quantum state manipulation. Written by leading scientists, this book provides the first up-to-date review articles on various aspects of quantum coherence, correlation and decoherence in semiconductor nanostructures, focusing on the optics-related subjects. It is intended not only for active researchers engaged in the pure and applied physics of semiconductor nanostructures, but also for graduate students starting out in this field, as each chapter contains a pedagogical introduction and illuminating illustrations.
