The discovery of high-temperature superconductors in 1986 by Bednorz and Müller led worldwide to an explosive growth of the field of superconductivity. This new interest extends to both the fundamental physics and the technological applications of superconductors. The first edition of this monograph, published in 1979, dealt only with magnetic flux structures in conventional superconductors. Since this information is still of great interest and demand for the book has persisted, the author has now made possible the publication of a second edition by adding an extensive treatment of magnetic flux structures in high-temperature superconductors.
Thus, this new edition now provides a comprehensive introduction to the field for researchers, engineers and other scientists; it will also be useful as supplementary reading for graduate courses in low-temperature solid-state physics.
