Résumé

Set in the 1930s, Goodbye to Berlin evokes the glamour and sleaze, excess and repression of Berlin society. Isherwood shows the lives of people at threat from the rise of the Nazis : a wealthy Jewish heiress, Natalia Landauer, a gay couple, Peter and Otto, and an English upper-class waif, the divinely decadent Sally Bowles.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Christopher Isherwood

Christopher Isherwood was born in Cheshire in 1904. He began to write at university and later moved to Berlin, where he gave English lessons to support himself. He witnessed Hitler's rise to power first hand and some of his best works, such as Mr Norris Changes Trains and Goodbye to Berlin, draw on these experiences. Isherwood travelled with W. H. Auden to China in the late 1930s before going to America in 1939 which he made his home for the rest of his life.
He died on 4 January 1986.
