Résumé

When Polly vanishes after Uncle Andrew's horrid trick, Digory has no choice but to follow her. Touching the magic rings takes the children into a wood where mysterious pools lead to countless other worlds. Their adventure opens up the doorway to Narnia - a new and magical land where animals learn to speak and where trees are able to walk. But Narnia is under threat from the evil Queen, and Digory and Polly have to find the magical fruit that alone can save it. This exquisite gift edition brings a fresh look to The Magician's Nephew, the first of the seven Chronicles of Narnia.

C.S. Lewis

Biographie de C.S. Lewis

C. S. Lewis was born in Belfast in 1898. As a child, he was fascinated by the fairy tales, myths and ancient legends recounted to him by his Irish nurse. The image of a faun carrying parcels and an umbrella in a snowy wood came to him when he was sixteen. However, it was not until many years later, as a professor at Cambridge University, that the faun was joined by an evil Queen and a magnificent lion. Their story became The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, one of the best-loved books of all time, and the first of the seven Chronicles of Narnia. With their remarkable combination of adventure, humour, fantasy and allegory, The Chronicles of Narnia have become classics of children's literature the world over. Pauline Baynes's illustrations of the Chronicles span a remarkable career, beginning with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in 1949. Almost fifty years later she returned to her original illustrations and added spectacular colour, which can be enjoyed in this glorious edition.
