Biographie d'Elizabeth Laird
Elizabeth Laird has spent many years in Africa, the Middle East and India. She divides her time between homes in Scotland and England, but the country that she knows and loves best is Ethiopia. She has travelled to its remotest regions, collecting traditional tales from village storytellers that have never before been written down. The Garbage King was inspired by her experiences among the street children of the capital city, Addis Ababa.
She is the author of many books for children. Kiss the Dust won the Children's Book Award. Red Sky in the Morning and Secret Friends were nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Jake's Tower was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. The Garbage King won the Scottish Arts Council Children's Book of the Year Award and the Key Stage Three category of the Stockport Book Awards.
It was also shortlisted for both the Carnegie Medal and the Blue Peter Book Award.
Yosef Kebede is a well-known Ethiopian artist, following in the footsteps of his father, a painter of traditional church murals. He lives in Addis Ababa.
