FRANCIS LATREILLE, PHOTOGRAPHER AND PAINTER In 1967 he took an initiative that was to change his lite: he decided to leave the banks of the Loire for Israel to cover the Six Days War. Three months later he returned to France as a photojournalist. He joined the team of France Soir in 1973 and travelled the world covering all the hot spots for the newspaper. In 1995 he accompanied Jean-Louis Etienne in his expeditions in the austral and boreal regions of the Manet. In 1998 he won the World Press Photo award. Since 1998 he has participated in numerous prestigious expeditions: "Mammuthus" in Siberia, Tara drifting trapped in the polar icecap and flying over the North Pole in a hot air balloon with Jean-Louis Etienne. His reports are published in the world's most important magazines (National Geographic, Geo, Herald Tribune, Life, Paris Match, Newsweek, Le Figaro Magazine). His photographs have been shown in the Musée de la Marine in 1997 and 2006, at the Palais de la Découverte in 2000, and his paintings in many galleries. YVES GAUBERT, MARINE JOURNALIST. After studying philosophy (1966-1970), he became a philosophy and French teacher, instructor in a school of cruising in the Mediterranean, then props assistant at the Paris Opera. He started his career as a journalist in 1976; he moved to La Rochelle and collaborated with specialised reviews such as Le Marin, Le Chasse Marée, Mer & Bateaux and Le Journal de la Marine Marchande. He became passionately interested in France's maritime heritage. He contributed to several collective works : "Les Marins de La Rochelle", Geste Editions, 1997, "Guide des noeuds et du matelotage", Le Chasse-Marée, 2002. He coordinated others : "Bateaux traditionnels français", Le Chasse-Marée, 1998 (won a prize from the Académie de Marine), "Voiles atlantiques", Le Chasse-Marée, 2005. He has followed the construction of Hermione since the beginning and he wrote the technical section of the book "L'Hermione, de Rochefort à la gloire américaine", by Emmanuel de Fontainieux, Editions de Monza, 2003 (won the Samuel Champlain Prize from the Académie de Saintonge).
