Context is the foundation level of the Access to History series. Context volumes are specifically designed to meet the needs of students as they work to bridge the gap between GCSE/Standard Grade and A-Level/Higher. This is achieved in terms of both factual content and skills development. Factual content. Each volume provides a wide-ranging overview of the period it covers. Although the emphasis is clearly on political history, the major issues affecting the economy, society, religion, culture and ideas are also given appropriate treatment.
Sufficient detail is included to ensure that a sound basic knowledge and understanding is acquired. Skills development. Context volumes focus on specific skills that need to be considerably extended and developed, promoting success at a more advanced level. Particular emphasis is placed on : - acquiring the ability to think and write in more advanced ways ; - further developing the study skills required for more independent styles of learning ; - building upon existing skills in handling source material.
This title assesses the main themes of modern British history. Issues such as politics, social and economic trends and foreign affairs are analysed and explained through accessible narrative, carefully structured activities and a variety of primary sources and document extracts. Each chapter offers an introductory analysis of various issues and forms part of a progressive study of the period.
