Das Jahr 1924 war sowohl für Erich Maria Remarque als auch für den Osnabrücker Künstler Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart ein Jahr des Umbruchs. Beide wohnten mittlerweile in Hannover, wo sie sich wiederbegegneten und Remarque für den Katalog einer Ausstellung der konstruktivistischen Künstlervereinigung »gruppe k« , die von Vordemberge-Gildewart gegründet wurde, ein Vorwort schrieb. Beide waren begeisterte Verfechter der Moderne und beschäftigten sich - der eine literarisch, der andere künstlerisch - mit dem »Stil unserer Zeit« .
100 Jahre später beleuchtete eine Doppelausstellung in Osnabrück ihre Zeit in Hannover und Remarques weiteren Weg bis zum Roman Im Westen nichts Neues. Dieser Band beinhaltet Beiträge zur Ausstellung und wird ergänzt durch Aufsätze über Remarques Freundschaft zu Carl Zuckmayer, zur polnischen Übersetzung von Die Traumbude und zur allgemeinen Rezeption in Aserbaidschan. 1924 was a year of upheaval for both Erich Maria Remarque and the Osnabrück-based artist Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart.
Both then resided in Hanover, where they remet and Remarque wrote a foreword for the catalogue of an exhibition by the constructivist art group 'gruppe k', founded by Vordemberge-Gildewart. Both were enthusiastic advocates of modernity and committed themselves - literally and artistically, respectively - with the "style of our time". 100 years later, a double exhibition in Osnabrück shed light on their time in Hanover and Remarque's further career up to the novel "All Quiet on the Western Front".
This volume contains contributions written for the exhibition. Furthermore, essays on Remarque's friendship with Carl Zuckmayer, the Polish translation of "The Dream Room" and the general reception in Azerbaijan are included.
