Résumé

Book DescriptionFOUR HUNDRED KILOGRAMS The 2026 Iran War and the Unfinished Question of a Bomb by Dr Naim Tahir BaigOn 13 June 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency inventoried 440.9 kilograms of uranium hexafluoride enriched to 60 percent inside Iran - of which inspectors had themselves verified 432.9 kilograms before losing access altogether. Everything that followed - a decapitation campaign against Iran's military and nuclear leadership, a widening regional war that pulled in Hezbollah, the Houthis, and the Gulf states, a collapsed ceasefire, a broken memorandum of understanding, and more than a year of blockade, attrition, and silence - happened around that number without ever definitively resolving it.
Four Hundred Kilograms is the first full-length account to treat that stockpile, and the evidentiary blackout that closed around it, as the organizing question of the war itself. Across fifteen chapters, Dr Naim Tahir Baig reconstructs the conflict from the road to the 28 February decapitation strikes through the Islamabad and Oman diplomatic channels, the collapse of the June memorandum, the blockade economy inside Tehran, and the maritime and economic war fought across the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea - closing with a sober accounting of what four cases of postwar uranium disposition would each mean, and what restoring the world's continuity of knowledge about Iran's stockpile would actually require.
Rather than smoothing over the war's genuinely uneven documentary record, the book sorts every claim it makes into four explicit evidentiary tiers - established, corroborated, claimed, and inferred - and holds to that discipline from the first page to the last, including in its extensive tables, source notes, and bibliography. The result is neither a partisan brief for any of the war's belligerents nor a work of speculative threat inflation, but a methodical, source-disciplined history written while the war's consequences were still unfolding.
It is a book for readers of international security, nonproliferation policy, and Middle East affairs who want to understand not just what happened in the 2026 Iran war, but how much of it can actually be known - and what that says about the next war fought under the same kind of blackout.
