Arcs of Intersection and Ascent: A Story About Everyone Everywhere is a civilisational philosophical narrative by Australian philosopher-activist and futurist Richard David Hames. Referred to by Bruno Latour as "the most consequential philosopher of our generation", the book is written from the vantage point of eighty years lived against the backdrop of accelerating planetary crisis. Moving through eleven dialogues, a structural interlude, and a closing sequence of orisons, the book traces a single sustained argument - from diagnosis through dissolution through imagining through becoming.
It anatomises the growth theology of industrial modernity, documents the fracture lines now visible across power, economics, technology, ecology, culture, and learning, and develops ecority - the philosophical covenant of ecology, security, and integrity - as the foundation of a genuinely different civilisational form. Drawing on Indigenous wisdom traditions, quantum physics, Buddhist philosophy, complexity science, and the Micronesian wayfinding tradition, it argues that the chrysalis is already well advanced, that the imaginal cells exist, and that the most urgent work of our time is mutual recognition.
