Résumé

Gambino crime boss John Gotti, also known as the "Dapper Don" and "Teflon Don" came to power as the head of the Gambino crime family organization after organizing the assassination of Gambino crime boss Paul Castellano on Dec. 16, 1985 in what was an unsanctioned hit on a mafia boss of one of the five New York City families that included Lucchese, Gambino, Colombo, Genovese and Bonanno. Gotti also assassinated Castellano's chauffeur and newly appointed underboss Tommy Bilotti in this planned attack.
Read about Gotti's rise to power through assassinating crime boss Paul Castellano in a coordinated operation with his partner Sammy "The Bull" Gravano and what happened to Gotti's underboss Frank DeCicco as a result of carrying out the hitjob on Castellano without permission from the Five Families. Lucchese hitman Anthony Casso warned Gotti and DeCicco not to carry out this action against Castellano but Gotti and DeCicco ignored his warning.
Also read in this informative report about what John Gotti did to become a "made man" and why the blue-collar Bergin Street Gotti faction of the Gambino family had grievances with Gambino boss Castellano that led to the eight-man hit team assassination of Castellano outside of Sparks Steakhouse that many observers called a "coup" within the Gambino family.
