Major Stede Bonnet was an anomaly among the many pirates that sailed the high seas during the Golden Age of Piracy that involved hijacking other pirates' ships and ransacking these vessels to attain valued treasures such as medicine in addition to adding more weapons to the ships, among other practices. Stede Bonnet was a wealthy sugar planter-plantation owner on the English owned Atlantic Ocean-based island nation of Barbados before becoming a pirate and Bonnet became bored with the life of an elite, aristocratic sugar planter on this Caribbean island nation that was founded in 1654 so the English-Barbadian Bonnet voluntarily forfeited this stable life of managing the economic plantation enslavement of dark skinned people that were colonized by England's imperialism to project Caribbean sugar to European markets and decided to therefore set sale to the ocean for what he perceived to be a more thrilling life of ship-based violence and crime.
