Résumé

Crime boss of New York Vito Genovese called for a meeting of mobsters from across the U. S. and overseas, which included everywhere from Boston to Havana, Kansas City to Los Angeles.  The gathering-known as the Apalachin Summit, occurred on Nov. 14, 1957. The New York families sent high-level delegations totaling 19 men or about a quarter of the attendees. Buffalo crime family caporegime Joseph Barbara Sr.
worked under Buffalo crime family boss Stefano Magaddino and was the man that The Commission chose to host this summit-conference of the mafia at his at his 58 acre estate in Apalachin a census-designated place within the Town of Owego in Tioga County, New York. Barbara built the English manor style stone ranch house at his estate on a hill that was located at the address 625 McFall Rd. Find out what happened that caused Sergeant Edgar Croswell and other police to bust up this summit of the mob as a result of clues that suspicious activities of Joseph Barbara Sr., in the year prior to the Nov.
14, 1952 meeting, were occurring at this estate. Genovese called for this meeting as part of his ongoing campaign to eliminate mob rivals and this campaign also included his ordering of assassinations of Charles Lucky Luciano ally and Murder Inc. head Albert Anastasia in addition to ordering his protege Vincent "Chin" Gigante to shoot acting boss of the Luciano crime family Frank Costello in the head in the lobby of the Majestic Apartments to terrorize Costello into submitting his position of acting boss of the Luciano family to Vito Genovese.
The sabotage of the Apalachin meeting led to the eventual fall of Vito Genovese as a powerful crime boss.
