Résumé
Jewish mobster Dutch Schultz was assassinated at the Palace Chop House located at 12 E. Park St., Newark, New Jersey because he proposed to The Commission the murder of prosecutor of the county of New York, Thomas Dewey for investigating Dutch Schultz's illegal prostitution and gambling rings. The Commission has a ruling committee headed by five crime bosses representing the five families of New York City in addition to the bosses of the Chicago Outfit and Buffalo, Philadelphia and Detroit crime families.
Thomas Dewey's investigations made it difficult for Schultz to profit from these illegal rackets, but The Commission, headed by Charles Lucky Luciano, the first head of the Genovese crime family voted "no" to Dutch Schultz's proposal to murder Dewey. When the Commission found out Schultz was planning this act independently through the head of Murder Inc. Albert Anastasia, The Commission voted to get rid of Schultz instead because he was causing too much trouble and The Commission did not want the reprisal from authorities for such a rash action.
Read about what the enforcement arm of the Commission known as Murder Inc. did to Dutch Schultz and his gang that included his accountant, bodyguard and chief lieutenant for attempting to do something without the permission of the Commission and also read about what happened to participants in Murder Inc. after one of their members named Abe Kid Twist Reles was threatened with execution and sang like a canary about the other members of the group so that he himself would not receive the electric chair.
Read about Dutch Schultz-the most vicious gangster who was involved in bootleg wars that went onto the territory of the Arnold Rothstein financed Irish Mobster Jack "Legs Diamond" and what Diamond did to the business partner of Schultz Joey Noe, in retaliation for infringing on his illicit alcohol bootleg rackets that were supplying speakeasies during prohibition. The Palace Chophouse Massacre of Oct.
23 1935, in which the Dutch Schultz gang was terminated by Murder Inc., is considered the rival to the St. Valentines Day Massacre conducted by Chicago Outfit crime boss Al Capone.
