Fast seine gesamte Wittenberger Tätigkeit hindurch hielt Melanchthon sonntags Vorlesungen insbesondere für ausländische Studenten, die dem deutschen Gottesdienst nicht folgen konnten. Bei seinen Erklärungen des Bibeltextes schöpfte er aus der Fülle seines theologischen, historischen, naturkundlichen etc. Wissens. Drei dieser Sonntagsvorlesungen werden exemplarisch übersetzt und kommentiert. In seine Vorlesungen streute Melanchthon viele Anekdoten aus Antike und Literatur und aus Begegnungen etwa mit Dürer, Luther, Kurfürst Friedrich d.
Weisen ein. Sie wurden von Studenten aufgeschrieben und sind meist nur handschriftlich überliefert. Diese Anekdoten und Geschichten, als "Dicta Melanthonis" bezeichnet, werden hier erstmals in Übersetzung samt Kommentar vorgestellt. Sie zeigen eine fast völlig unbekannte Seite Melanchthons: den großen Geschichtenerzähler. [Sunday lectures and anecdotes] During almost all of his time in Wittenberg, Melanchthon gave lectures on Sundays, especially for foreign students who could not understand the German service.
For his explanations of the Bible text he drew from his profound theological, historical and biological knowledge. By way of example, the volume contains translations of three of these Sunday lectures, including comments. Melanchthon sprinkled his lectures with various anecdotes from the ancient world, from literature and from encounters with Dürer, Luther, and Elector Frederick the Wise. They were written down by students and have mostly only been handed down in handwriting.
These anecdotes and stories, known as "Dicta Melanthonis", are presented here for the first time in translation and with commentary. They show an almost completely unknown side of Melanchthon: the one of a great storyteller.
