Résumé
Lacey and Amanda would listen to music, dance and gossip in her parents' basement. In a short time, Amanda brought up the subject of boys. Lacey admitted to making arrangements with her girlfriends to go to the movies where they would hook up with boys from school. They would sit with their boyfriends in the back rows and make out. As their friendship grew, Amanda told Lacey that her mother died because of lung cancer when she was very young. Her father relied on Rachel, at the time a young single woman, to watch Amanda when she was about five or six and later her father hired her as a live in housekeeper, she invited Lacey over to her house to meet Rachel and Lacey was glad she did.
Lacey and Amanda began spending more time at Amanda's because Rachel was always fun to be around, and she did things with the girls. Sadly, one day, after high school graduation, Rachel and Amanda and her dad moved unexpectedly from the neighborhood. Rumors were plenty about why they just disappeared; but Lacey knew the truth and was devasted and felt abandoned.
