Sarah had a coming-of-age epiphany at her very first sleep over, she was manipulated and exposed to lifestyle she had no idea existed. Totally shocked by what took place at the sleep over, she rushed home confused and confessed all that had happened over night. Though her mother was concerned, it was obvious to Sarah, she wasn't as shocked as her daughter. The experience haunted the Sarah well into her graduation.
Finding new friends she forgot about the sleepover. During the summer, Sarah and her friends spent a lot of time at the beach, and it was there she happened upon an older woman, Karine, on vacation from Canada. Sarah became smitten by the mature woman, and they did things together to the point she avoided her friends from the beach and soon was in a relationship with Karine. Remembering her experience from her sleepover, Sarah wanted to show Karine she was not naïve and they made love nearly every day. Karine returned to Canada; Sarah confided in one of her friends about her and Karine.
The friend told everyone she knew anyway and soon Sarah was an outcast and friendless. Alone at the beach, Sarah met Nicole while watching a beach volleyball game, who asked her to be her partner. Knowing Sarah didn't play Nicole told her she would teach her. After a rocky start Sarah caught on and by end of summer she and Nicole were a formidable team. They found a sponsor who got them in a league, even touring Europe.
