Résumé
A skin polyp is a growth on the surface of the skin. The skin polyps can be raised on a stalk (pendulated) or flat (sessile). Most skin polyps are benign, which means they are not cancerous. Besides skin polyps, there are polyps present in the mucosa of the ear, nose and throat. Other polyps are present in the stomach, colon, uterus, cervix, bladder and even in the gallbladder. Some types of polyps may be pre-cancerous or can become cancer.
Flat polyps are smaller and harder to visualize but are more likely to be cancer than raised polyps. Most people with polyps do not have symptoms. Symptoms include blood on your underwear, on toilet paper, or in the stool. Other symptoms are constipation or diarrhea for more than a week or so. Most polyps are removed and tested for cancer. If there are symptoms or a family history of polyps or cancer, the patient should be tested for cancer.
