A Friend with Needs

Beth is a thirty-something still living in the town she was born in. She started working right out of high school and eventually found a job she loved, a boss who treated her like a queen. Her friendship with her boss developed more and soon they were in a sexual relationship that allowed Beth to be herself. Bi-sexual! Beth and her boss had settled into a very comfortable relationship, each satisfying the other's romantic and physical needs. Most often, Beth would go to her boss's apartment after work, and they would have dinner and spend quality time in bed, not necessarily in that order.
On one such night, during one steamy interlude, Beth's cell phone rang. She immediately ignored it, but her boss handed her the phone and she answered it.  The call at first confused Beth, someone she didn't know was trying to tell her something important and there was crying in the background making it hard to sort out. Finally, the caller mentioned a name Beth hadn't heard or thought about in nearly a decade. The name was Melody,  a girl she went to high school and with whom she was very close.
 But Beth's sexuality was a secret to Melody and after graduating they both went their separate ways. Still confused, she listened to Melody appeal to come to be with her because her husband had just died. Should Beth grab a plane and head to Mobile AL jerked Beth out of her confusion and knew what she had to do.
