Résumé

TechFlow Solutions is selling a product that can't do what the company says it does. The question isn't whether someone will notice. It's what they'll do when they do. Workflow Anomalies is the fourth issue of Scope Creep Press, an unconventional fiction magazine in book form. Three longer stories and four shorter pieces about corporate operations under pressure. A badger PM opens a green weekly packet and finds the blocker list has been moved into an appendix.
His story follows a cascading failure through project plans, bug ownership, a management narrative review, and the human cost landing on weekend coverage and scapegoat selection. A fox discovers the sales deck promises a rollout the system cannot support-her job is to cut enough false promise to protect users while preserving a feature-flag breadcrumb that proves the honest plan existed. A squirrel stages what she thinks is a recovery intervention and learns the team is too afraid to accept relief; her final move is an honest capacity plan that doesn't stop the next sprint but makes the exhaustion impossible to call velocity.
The shorter pieces are dark comedy and quiet dread. A beaver finds end-of-day updates written before the day has happened, then lets the day unfold so he can compare the prewritten memory against lived events. A chameleon carries a red project into a live executive review while a real user incident unfolds in a side channel. Two executives leave one meeting with opposite instructions, and the lower staff spend an afternoon building two compatible-looking realities.
An octopus builds an OKR tree flexible enough to satisfy three incompatible priority shifts, then realizes the alignment is being used to erase the conflict. Slack threads feature Omar from Ticket Closed. The tech lead is Greg from Ticket Closed. Priya previously audited Cassie from Assessment Protocol. The connections are there for readers who want them. Created through a combination of human writing and generative AI, used for internal consistency across an interconnected multi-issue series.
