Résumé

In the arid desert expanse of Arizona, Harold Parker tended to a garden that seemed perpetually on the brink of withering away. Water was a scarce commodity, and the unforgiving sun sapped the nutrients from the thirsty soil. Yet, Harold persisted, raking away the desiccated remnants of scrub bushes and tumbleweeds that had accumulated overnight. On this particular morning, as the first rays of dawn crested the horizon, Harold ventured outside as usual, rake in hand.
However, something peculiar caught his eye - a small, strange plant that had seemingly sprouted from nowhere. Just the day before, that patch of earth had been barren, yet now, this alien-looking specimen stood defiant amidst the dusty landscape. Curiosity piqued; Harold leaned in for a closer inspection. The plant boasted a cluster of nodules at its apex, from which sprouted a tangle of cornsilk-like strands, resembling a wispy crown of hair.
As Harold's gaze lingered, the plant seemed to stir, startling him as it suddenly shot upwards a couple of inches before his very eyes. Dumbfounded, Harold stumbled backwards, his heart racing. This was no ordinary botanical specimen. Fumbling for his phone, he quickly tapped out a message to his friend Judy, a botanist at the nearby university, imploring her to come and investigate this enigmatic discovery.
