He wore a linen kilt and a broad collar of faience beads, his feet strapped in sandals, his head crowned by a blue and gold headdress.
His skin was the color of dark honey, his eyes wide with the terror and awe of a creature wrenched from nonexistence and thrust into bedlam. He gazed across the river to the city's clutch of glass towers and satellite dishes, and then behind him at the Giza plateau, where the pyramids squatted like the bones of dead gods.
