Résumé

An EXPLOSIVE Miss Fortune adventureNothing says small town charm like jail time, exploding auctions, and chasing a drug lord through a Louisiana rock quarry. Former CIA assassin Fortune Redding thought Sinful, Louisiana was supposed to be her safe haven. Instead, she's stuck in a cell with her sometimes partner Brennan Noble (who's more worried about his fancy shoes than felony charges), hunting a ghost known as the Ice Queen-a ruthless drug lord with a taste for antiques, small mercenary armies, and making her enemies disappear.
When the Ice Queen kidnaps Fortune's friends, the deadly geriatric duo of Ida Belle and Gertie, the gloves come off. Armed with duct tape, questionable intel, and Gertie's pet alligator (for emotional support), Fortune's ragtag team storms a fortified compound crawling with mercenaries, surface-to-air missiles, and one very angry woman in designer heels. Throw in chase scenes, a Cybertruck joyride through gunfire, a food fight, and enough firepower to level a small country, and you've got another day in Sinful.
Because when Fortune Redding promises justice, she delivers-even if it means wading through quarry muck. The Ice Queen's reign is about to get messy. Just released:May 2026Burning Mistakes: from the series, A Throwback to the early days of Miss Fortune NEW BOOKS TO CHECK OUT:The Gray Ghost, by David Wood and Stephen JohnRainhorse 2025, by Jesse Jacobson and Stephen JohnFame and Fortune 2025, by Stephen JohnThe Christmas Troubadour, by Stephen John (Release date Nov.

About the AuthorSteve is a retired business executive and freelance sports journalist who now spends his days chasing fictional criminals and real guitar strings. He writes cozy mysteries with a Miss Fortune twist, inspired by the delightfully chaotic world of Jana DeLeon-where the suspects are slippery, the sidekicks are snarky, and the body count is strictly literary. Before turning to mystery and mayhem, Steve interviewed thirty of the world's top poker players for Phil Hellmuth's book Deal Me In.
He's also co-authored two Dane Maddock thrillers with David Wood (Devil's Face and Gray Ghost) and teamed up with Jesse Jacobson on Rainhorse, a novel that gallops between grit and grace. When he's not writing, Steve performs with his two-piece acoustic band, Latitude 47, in and around the Seattle area-including senior homes, where the crowd knows every lyric and occasionally requests a plot twist.
His guitar has been known to solve more story problems than his outline software, and his groupies (mostly retired librarians and one very enthusiastic bingo caller) are fiercely loyal. Steve has been married for 49 years-a record even his fictional detectives would envy-and enjoys time with his two children and two grandchildren, who keep him young and occasionally ask him to turn the amp down. He's currently working on his first Western novel, White Bone Prairie, where the horses are fast, the justice is frontier-style, and the moral compass spins like a poker chip in a hurricane.
