Set in late Victorian England, this story tells of two university students from London, Manfred Stein and Alan Robertson. Manfred's family has a beach house high on the Dorset cliffs, and the pair head there for a few days break. Night has fallen when they arrive and Alan is on edge from the start, as the place is so very isolated and sits in total darkness near the cliff edge. His feelings are heightened when on the very first night he experiences a frightening and inexplicable encounter in his bedroom.
The following day, Manfred's cousin, Isabella, arrives and Alan is suddenly overcome with the oddest sense of déjà vu. After Isabella goes missing following an argument with Manfred, things become very strange, each day bringing fresh horrors as their time away turns truly nightmarish.
