Die im Jahr 1502 von Kurfürst Friedrich dem Weisen gegründete Universität Wittenberg entwickelte sich im Verlauf des 16. Jahrhunderts zu einem intellektuellen Zentrum der Reformation mit europaweiter Ausstrahlung. Dabei spielte die Theologische Fakultät eine Schlüsselrolle. Sie war die akademische Heimat Martin Luthers, wurde von den Bildungsidealen Philipp Melanchthons stark geprägt und blieb auch nach dem Tod der beiden großen Reformatoren als "cathedra Lutheri" der Hort des wahren Glaubens für alle, die sich an der Lehre der Wittenberger Reformation orientierten.
Das vorliegende Professorenbuch unternimmt es erstmals, die Besetzung der Wittenberger Theologieprofessuren und der mit der Theologischen Fakultät verbundenen Ämter auf einer soliden Quellengrundlage bis zum Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts zu erfassen. Biogramme und Tabellen ermöglichen eine rasche Orientierung über Ämter und Personen. Für die noch zu schreibende Geschichte der Wittenberger Theologischen Fakultät wird damit eine verlässliche Grundlage bereitgestellt. [Register of Wittenberg Professors from 1502 to 1815/17] The university of Wittenberg, founded in 1502 by the Elector Frederick the Wise, developed during the 16th century into a centre of the Reformation with a Europe-wide radiation.
The theological faculty played a key role in that development. It was the academic home of Martin Luther and was strongly impacted by the educational ideals of Philipp Melanchthon. The present book gives for the first time on the basis of solid sources a record of the professorships in Wittenberg and of the offices linked with the theological faculty up to the beginning of the 19th century. Short biographies and charts allow a rapid orientation about offices and persons.
