Von der Reformation ist der evangelischen Kirche aufgegeben, sich als eine der steten Erneuerung bedürftige und zugleich zu solcher Erneuerung befähigte Kirche zu verstehen. So gehört es zum evangelischen Christsein, das eigene Glauben und Denken, Reden und Handeln kritisch zu befragen, ob es dem Evangelium entspricht und den Herausforderungen der jeweiligen Zeit gerecht wird.
Im Fokus des vorliegenden Bandes steht der Gottesdienst.
Hier gilt es, nicht nur Impulse der Reformation, sondern auch der Aufklärung fruchtbar zu machen. Ist es doch ein wesentliches Anliegen des liberalen Protestantismus, die Inhalte des christlichen Glaubens gerade auch aufgeklärten Menschen nahezubringen. Mit Beiträgen von Alf Christophersen, Jan Hermelink, Isabel Klaus, Wolfgang Pfüller, Andreas Rössler, Dorothea Zager, Werner Zager und Ingo Zöllich. [Here We stand - can We Do Also Otherwise? Reformation and Enlightenment: Impulses for Worship Service] The Reformation challenges the Protestant church to understand itself as a church which is always in need for ongoing renewal and is also able to do so.
Thus, it is part of being a Protestant Christian to critically examine the own faith and thinking, talking and acting, in view of its accordance with the Gospel and the challenges of the present time. The focus of this volume is on the worship service. Here, it is a matter of making fruitful not only impulses of the Reformation but also of the Enlightenment. It is a fundamental concern of liberal Protestantism to provide also enlightened people with an understanding of Christian faith.
