After just returning from his father's funeral Steve Hargrove finds out that his younger brother Mark recently talked their dad into leaving the entire family fortune to him, and thus, he ends up with nothing. Returning to work Steve makes it through the week and then settles in for a quiet weekend at home. While watching a scientific television program on time travel, he becomes obsessed with the concept and decides that his purpose in life is to build a device that will let him travel across time itself.
