She came to the world of men already faster than all of them, already formed by a place that asked only that you be what you were. When her father found her again, he said: you will marry. She said: race me. If you win, I am yours. If I win, you die. No man won. Until Hippomenes came to the racecourse - not to race, but to watch.

What was the race keeping out?He watched three men die and he understood. Then he went to Aphrodite and asked for three golden apples, and he placed them in the race not as a trap but as a question - in the specific places that only a person who had truly paid attention to Atalanta would know to put them.
