No One Else Knows How

The documentation exists, but nobody uses it. The passwords are stored, but the backup does not know which account matters. A coworker has watched the job, but the usual person still answers every question on vacation. A year-end task, supplier problem, customer exception, or recovery sequence remains "all in her head."No One Else Knows How treats those conditions as operating dependencies, not personality defects and not a reason to document everything.
The method starts with a real absence. It names the minimum result that must continue and the longest acceptable interruption. It finds work hidden inside noticing, checking, choosing, confirming, recovering, and handing back. It uses ordinary, difficult, and recovery cases to capture cues, thresholds, false status, contacts, history, and judgment. It separates access, authority, skill, and information; compares coworker, split, rotation, outside, and pause arrangements; trains the backup through actual performance; and runs a planned absence exercise without hidden help from the usual worker.
The book also covers resistance and incentives, customer and supplier relationships, common-cause failure, rare work, first-day and later coverage, paid continuity-repair services, and bounded uses of software and AI. It allows partial coverage and planned pause where full redundancy is not practical. The central test is concrete: can an authorized second person notice the work, gain access, find the current inputs, produce the minimum acceptable result in time, stop at the right boundary, leave a usable record, and finish without the primary quietly completing the task?
