No other Christmas carol has been as successful throughout the world as 'Silent Night'. It is not only sung in many languages of this world but has also inspired numerous composers to write arrangements. For his choral piece 'Stille Nacht', Bertold Hummel has written three interesting, easy-to-sing variations on the song theme. He has included texts for Advent and Christmas time to be read between the music sections, thus providing a solemn song motet for contemplative hours in Advent.

Hummels vier-bis achtstimmiger Chorsatz zu Grubers weltbekannter Melodie "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht" (für Günther Jenas Michaelischor in Hamburg verfasst) beschäftigt sich mit Mustern, die flächige Klangteppiche (mit Clusters und Gleittönen) in ein Wiegen und Wogen einfließen lassen. Von überall her ertönen quasi Engelsstimmen als Unter- und Überbau zur Hauptmelodie, und dezente dissonante Reibungen entrücken die Stimmigkeit jeglicher verführerischer Süßlichkeit.
