Résumé
Bertold Hummel's a-cappella choral music was mainly written for being used in services. The missa 'Cantabo Domino' was composed in 1958 for the liturgical festival of a Catholic student community in Freiburg im Breisgau. The piece can be performed by an amateur choir without great effort. Of modern harmony, the mass is exemplarily short and concise, with the comprehensibility of the text being to the fore.

Die Missa "Cantabo Domino" ist von einem Laienchor ohne allzu große Mühe aufführbar. In ihrer zeitgemäßen Klanglichkeit ist die Messe von exemplarischer Kürze und Prägnanz, wobei die Textverständlichkeit im Vordergrund steht. Hummel hat die melodischen Formulierungen bewusst den gregorianischen Propriengesängen in stilistischer Einheit angeglichen. Diese "Gebrauchsmusik" im besten Sinne sei allen Chören ans Herz gelegt !
